远亲不如近邻 (Close neighbours are better than distant relatives). With this in mind, the Neighbours for Active Living programme (or “Neighbours” in short) was launched in January 2014.

As our population ages, having a neighbour that regularly visits you can be very helpful especially if you are an elderly facing health issues and have little support. Addressing this need, Eastern Health Alliance and South East CDC launched the Neighbours Programme. Under this programme, a team of healthcare professionals and volunteers who are neighbours to these elderly will visit and care for them in their own homes. Results have been very encouraging so far with elderly showing improvements such as reduced hospital admissions and average length of stay. Thanks to the volunteers’ self-less and caring gestures which created lasting impacts to the elderly’s health-social well-being. Come JOIN US as a neighbour befriender and start making a difference today!
